The breed that is known today is an old one and it derived from ancient hunting dogs that appeared on the Honshu island of Japan. As the area where these dogs lived is a mountainous and the climate is harsh the dogs were very strong and hard. Akita dog pictures will sometimes include a photo of the dog in training.
